Drop in a video and get a smaller MP4 that fits Discord, email or chat.
Your file. Your browser. Nothing uploaded.
Everything runs on your device, so it takes a while: often a few minutes per minute of video, longer on phones. Keep this tab open until it's done. The first time, the video engine (about 10 MB) loads once.
The Video Compressor re-encodes your video as an H.264 MP4, the format every device plays. It can aim for a size goal, like Discord's 10 MB or an email's 25 MB, or for a quality level you pick. Everything happens in this tab, so your video stays private.
Size goal (the Discord and Email presets) is best when there is a hard limit. The tool divides the size by the video's length to get a bitrate, so short clips look great and long ones get softer. Quality mode keeps the look steady and lets the size land where it lands: simple scenes shrink a lot, busy scenes like sports or confetti stay bigger.
Phones record in 1080p or 4K, but most chats show videos small. 720p looks sharp on a phone and cuts the pixels to about half of 1080p. 480p is fine for memes and quick clips. Keep original only when the video will be watched full screen. Portrait videos work the same way: the short side is what gets capped.
Discord: 10 MB for free accounts. Gmail and Outlook: about 25 MB and 20 MB per email. WhatsApp: around 100 MB for videos, but smaller files send faster. If you only need the sound, the Audio Converter turns a video into an MP3 that is far smaller.
Turn on Remove sound for screen recordings and silent clips. It saves the space the audio used, which goes back into the picture when you use a size goal.
Tap Discord 10 MB. The tool reads how long your video is, works out the bitrate that fits in 10 MB with the sound included, and encodes at 720p. If the result still comes out a bit over, it runs once more at a lower bitrate.
Video is a lot of data, and here your own device does all the work instead of a server. Expect a few minutes per minute of video on a computer, more on a phone. The status line shows the percent done and the time left. Lower Resolution makes it faster.
No. The video engine (FFmpeg, built for the web) loads into this page and runs on your device. Your file never leaves it, which is why it works for private clips.
MP4, MOV (including iPhone videos), WebM, MKV and most other common formats. The result is always an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, which plays on every phone, browser and chat app.
A size goal spreads a fixed number of bits over the whole video. A 10 minute video in 10 MB leaves too little for each second to look like anything, so the tool asks you to trim it first or use Small.
