Does anything get uploaded?

Nothing gets uploaded. The tone is made on your own device, right in your browser.

How do I generate a tone?

Type a frequency or drag the slider, pick a wave, and press Play. Use the presets for common tones like 440 Hz, 432 Hz and 1 kHz.

What frequencies can it make?

Anything from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, in steps as small as 0.1 Hz.

What are the wave types?

Sine is a pure, smooth tone. Square sounds hollow and buzzy, sawtooth is bright and harsh, and triangle sits in between.

Can I download the tone?

Yes. Pick a length (5 seconds to 10 minutes) and click Export MP3 or Export WAV.

What can I use a tone generator for?

Tuning instruments, testing speakers and headphones, finding your hearing range, sound experiments, and 432 Hz or 528 Hz listening.

Why can't I hear very high or low tones?

Most adults can't hear above about 15 to 17 kHz, and small speakers can't play very low tones. Try headphones.

Is it safe?
